Unlock Your Creativity

Is an Art Practice Yoga for Your Mind?

Much like yoga, making time to be creative and developing a regular art practice can do wonders for your mental health. Just as yoga is about connecting body and breath, an art practice connects mind and creativity. Both practices invite mindfulness, grounding us in the present moment—a state that’s crucial for calming the mind and reducing stress.

  • Both practices encourage mindfulness and staying in the present moment.

  • Both practices can reduce stress and release tension.

  • Both create a sense of achievement and self-fulfillment.

  • Both practices offer non-verbal methods to process emotions.

  • Art practice stimulates calming, meditative flow states and slows down mental activity.

  • Both reduce anxiety by giving space for self-reflection and personal expression.

Both art and yoga offer a peaceful reset for body and mind. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned artist, explore gel plate printmaking and papermaking to collage and brushless painting, participants explore simple yet transformative techniques that require no prior experience or fancy equipment. Whether layering textures, experimenting with color, or crafting unique prints, these workshops offer a space to slow down, and discover how to confidently craft unique, one-of-a-kind artworks.

You can choose to take one, two, or all four workshops—each designed to stand alone while also building on the others to create a cohesive four-part series for those looking to deepen their creative journey. Click each title to learn more.

Artful Printmaking

Discover the art of printmaking with gel plates in a fun, approachable way, perfect for your home or small studio. This class welcomes artists of all ages and experience levels who are excited to experiment and share creative ideas.

Through demonstrations, discussions, and guided projects, you’ll explore monotype printmaking using acrylic paint and a gel plate. This technique involves applying paint to a smooth surface, like a gel plate, and transferring the image to paper by hand. Known for its unique textures and painterly effects, monotype printing is ideal for abstract and landscape pieces as well as materials for collage, scrapbooking, and mixed media art.

This enjoyable and fast-paced technique offers immediate results, helping new and intermediate students build confidence without needing advanced drawing or painting skills. Experienced artists will find new inspiration by layering color, shape, and texture to create fresh, dynamic compositions.

Artful Printmaking I: Getting Started with Gel Plates
This beginner-friendly one-day workshop is perfect for those curious about gel plate printmaking. Learn the basics of monotype printmaking, from layering vibrant colors to experimenting with textures and patterns. Designed as a standalone class, it’s also a great starting point for pairing with Artful Collage or Artful Landscapes to create a three-part series that builds on foundational techniques. From Stress to Serenity: How Art Can Transform Your Day

Thirty-five minutes spent in an art gallery reduced viewers' cortisol levels by nearly 32%, according to a study by the University of Westminster.

53% of people who engage in creative activities experience a noticeable improvement in their mental well-being, reports the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).

Regular exposure to art improves cognitive function and memory. People over 70 who engage in artistic activities are 73% less likely to develop mild cognitive impairment compared to those who don’t, sites one Mayo Clinic study.

Join me and fellow art lovers at Plunge Into The Arts for an Artist Open House on Wednesday, 8/28, from 6–7:30 PM to experience a dose of artful relaxation and good vibes.
